One of the most challenging aspects of endodontic treatment is to locate all canals and safely instrument them. It has well be recognised that the more residual tooth tissue increases predictability of the restorative aspects of endodontic s, thereby improving outcomes. However, removal of dental hard tissue is required to achieve location and instrumentation of canals. This lecture will discuss modern advances in access cavities, including advantages and disadvantages of each, in the goal of tooth preservation. The use of 3D printed guides will also be discussed for location and instrumentation of calcified canals.
