Sarah Murray

Biography:    

Sarah is dually qualified as a Hygienist and a Therapist and comes from a clinical and educational background. She also graduated with a Masters Degree in Primary Health & Community Care from the University of Westminster in 1997. She currently teaches students studying to become dental hygienists and therapists both at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry and the University of Essex.

Sarah has been actively involved with Dental Health, the Journal for the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy, for over 10 years, in addition to serving on various committees within the Society. She also writes articles for va variety of dental journals. She was awarded the title Hygienist of the Year in 2007.

In her spare time Sarah enjoys spending time with friends and family, travelling around the world and hiking.

Dr. Julian Webber BDS MSc DGDP FICD

Biography:    

Julian Webber is the Director of the Harley Street Centre for Endodontics, the state of the art facility dedicated to endodontic excellence. He is widely recognised as an expert on the use of nickel titanium in root canal preparation as well as re-treatment procedures. He is a faculty member of the Pacific Endodontic Research Foundation in San Diego, California, where he has perfected and taught all aspects of endodontics under the microscope.

Christine Pleasance

Biography:    

Christine qualified at Guys many years ago and worked in Private practice for 20 years, including a perio practice. Christine is a past president of the BDHA and has had many articles published in dental journals including one with Professor Palmer on maintaining dental implants. She is also a dental hygiene tutor for the school of dental hygiene and therapy at KCL.
Christine has been a staff hygienist at Guys for over 10 years treating patients with dental implants and this now includes patients with head & neck cancer that have dental implants. Dr Patrick Holmes

Biography:    

Patrick Holmes qualified from Birmingham University in 1991. He has attended numerous courses, both in the UK and overseas.

Baldeesh Chana

Biography:    

Bal qualified in 1992 at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry formally known as The London Hospital, where she is now Deputy Principal Hygiene/Therapy Tutor. She also works part time in a general dental practice.

She is currently Chair of The British Association of Dental Therapists, and represents BADT on a number of boards. She is also a DCP Inspector for the General Dental Council inspecting DCP training courses.

Dr. Justin Stewart

Biography:    

Dr. Justin Stewart was the first qualified Biofunctional Prosthetic System (BPS) dentist in the UK. He is a member of the American Prosthodontic Society and the British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry. Dr Stewart has recently been appointed to Dr Joe Massad’s International Advisory Board. Dr. Trevor Bigg

Biography:    

Trevor has been caring for patients in his private practice in West Oxfordshire for over 35 years. Treating up to four generations of some families has taught him to as conservative as possible when it comes to tooth preparation. Trevor operates a general practice and takes referrals for cosmetic dentistry, tooth whitening and the non-invasive restoration of the worn dentition. He lectures at home and abroad on placing beautiful composites, bleaching and Minimal Intervention Dentistry. Trevor has the Membership in General Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons, London and Fellowships from the College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and London. Dr Carol Tait

Biography:    

Dr Carol Tait graduated with honours from Dundee University and worked in general practice for many years before returning to academia. She obtained a Masters degree in Endodontics from the University of Stellenbosch in 1998 and then became a Lecturer in Endodontics at the University of Dundee where she completed her specialist endodontic training in 2004.

She is an experienced endodontist who practices three days a week at the esteemed Edinburgh Dental Specialists where she treats referrals case from throughout Scotland and the north of England. She also works as a Senior Clinical Teacher in Endodontics at the University of Dundee providing undergraduate and postgraduate endodontic teaching two days a week and frequently delivers postgraduate courses throughout Scotland.

Dr Steven Parker

Biography:    

Steven Parker is in Private Practice in Harrogate, Yorkshire. He became involved with dental lasers as one of the first users in 1990. He is visiting professor in laser dentistry at the University of Genoa, Italy and was the 2005 President of the Academy of Laser Dentistry, based in the USA. He has authored many peer-reviewed publications, including “Lasers in Dentistry” a BDJ Practitioner Series textbook based on his papers published in the BDJ. He was the dental consultant to the Dept. of Health 2008 MHRA  publication: “Guidelines on the safe use of lasers and IPLs in medical, surgical dental and aesthetic practice”. Dr. Fiona Clarke

Biography:    

Fiona's teaching interests lie in functional anatomy, local anaesthetics and the foundation teaching of periodontics and periodontology. She has a particular interest in the development of new teaching and learning tools aimed at supporting students in the transition from pre-clinical to clinical. Clinically, Fiona has a special interest in periodontology; specifically in treatment planning and improving aesthetics post treatment. Jason Smithson

Biography:    

Qualified at the Royal London Hospital in 1995; achieving a number of awards including The Constance Klein Memorial ,The Stafford Millar, and The Malcolm Jenkins Scholarships, The American Association of Endodontics Prize and the Overall Award for Clinical Dentistry. After spending 3 years in oral surgery residency in London, he relocated to Cornwall in the extreme south-west of England and is in general practice with a special interest in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry. His specific interest is composite resin artistry and he has presented to dentists both locally, nationally and internationally (USA , Canada and Europe) on this topic. He is a clinical lecturer to final year students at The Peninsula Dental School, Cornwall ,UK and is involved in postgraduate dental teaching in both the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly and Plymouth Foundation Dental Practitioners Schemes. Tim Doswell

Tim qualified with Hounours from Leeds Dental Institute in 1996. He practices at the award winning Carlton House Dental Practice in Knaresborough and the Raglan Suite in Harrogate abd takes implant referrals from across the North of England. He has run courses on the restorative phase of implant treatment and regularly lectures to local colleagues on the subject. Amit Patel

Amit is a Specialist in Periodontics practicing at Grace House Specialist Dental Centre in Birmingham. His special interests are dental implants, regenerative and aesthetic Periodontics. Amit graduated from the University of Liverpool and completed a 4 year specialist training programme in Periodontics at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Dental Institute. Dr Ian Cline

Biography:    

Ian has a private cosmetic and general practice in the West End of London. He is a co-founder and the course director of Cosmetic Dental Seminars, www.cosmeticdentalseminars.org, the group dedicated to providing state-of-the-art courses in aesthetic dentistry.

He is a regular on the dental lecture circuit, speaking to numerous VT, Section 63 and private study clubs, on the subjects of photography, minimal aesthetic and adhesive dentistry.

He is the current President of the London Dental Study Club (londondentalstudyclub.com) and is a Guest Lecturer to the King’s College London MSc programmes in Aesthetic Dentistry and Fixed & Removal Prosthodontics. Ian has been featured in Red Magazine, the Guardian Newspaper, and his practice is one of only a few to be seen in “The Little Black Book” section of London’s Time Out.

Ian Peace is a General Dental Council registered specialist in Periodontics. He completed a fellowship programme at the University of Miami Medical School in Advanced Implantology and Bone Grafting in 1999 and has teaching experience at the University of Sheffield in Periodontics. He is currently the Postgraduate adviser for the East Midlands Branch of the British Society of Periodontology. Manish Bose

Manish is a Specialist in Periodontology and completed his training with a distinction from the Eastman Dental Institute ( UCL ). He qualified from Manchester in 1996. Prof. David Watts

David has a major commitment to Postgraduate Education and Research, through leading a group of Biomaterials researchers including circa 10 PhD candidates. 45 PhDs and 40 Masters degrees have been successfully supervised personally, to date. David sustains a wide-ranging basic research activity in biomaterials for dentistry and orthopaedics and he is a member of the Photon Science Institute. Prof. Stefan Zimmer

Biography:    

Prof. Zimmer started his dental career at the Free University of Berlin and ended up as deputy head of the Department of Operative and Preventive Dentistry. In 2001, Prof. Zimmer was a visiting scientist at the University of Kansas, USA. In 2003 he moved to the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf where he was acting head at the Department of Operative and Preventive Dentistry.

Presently he is head of the Dental School of the Witten/Herdecke University and chairman of the Department of Operative and Preventive Dentistry including Endodontics and Pediatric Dentistry.

His scientific activities are mainly focused on preventive dentistry, both in basic and clinical research. He has published 90 original articles, 69 abstracts, 110 review articles, four books and has given more than 100 scientific presentations. Dr. Nicolas Martin

Biography:    

Nicolas is Senior Clinical Lecturer/Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Sheffield. His clinical interests span all of restorative dentistry, with a specialist interest in fixed Prosthodontics and Endodontics.

He has overall responsibility for the teaching of fixed and removable prosthodontics and endodontics, both at an under- and post-graduate level. He has a range of research interests, most of which revolve around the repair of the damaged tooth and the biomechanics of its reconstruction.

Barbara Lamb

Barbara is a Specialist Radiographer that has specialised in the head and neck area. She has worked for the past 35 years in the dental field working in practice, hospital and community settings and has also been involved in research. A few years ago she decided to become self-employed to concentrate on teaching.

Professor Crispian Scully CBE

Biography:    

Amongst other roles, Crispian Scully is the Chairman of the International Federation of Oral Medicine; President of the International Academy of Oral Oncology; Secretary of the British Society for Oral Medicine; member of the International Committee of the American Academy for Oral Medicine; and Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh Dental Council.

Professor Crispian Scully is an Editor of Oral Diseases, and Medicina Oral, and Associate Editor of Journal of Investigative and Clinical Dentistry. He founded Oral Diseases and Oral Oncology and is on several Editorial Boards.

He has presented throughout the world and has published over 1000 scholarly works. Professor Scully has published over 40 textbooks mainly on oral medicine, oral surgery, oral pathology and special care dentistry.

He has won many awards including the UK Dental Award for the Most Outstanding Achievements in Dentistry, and Commander of the Order of the British Empire for Service to Dental Patient Care.

Professor Crispian Scully has been a dental Dean for 20 years (5 at Bristol and 15 at UCL) leading the institute to receive the first Queen’s Award for Higher and Further Education in dentistry.

James Goolnik – Dentist BDS MSc.
James qualified in 1992 from King’s College London. He has worked exclusively in the City since 1995. He took two years off to gain a masters degree in Conservative dentistry at the world-renowned Eastman Dental Institute.

James is the immediate past-president of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). The AACD is the largest international dental organisation dedicated to advancing the art and science of cosmetic dentistry.

Anthony Roberts

Biography:    

I qualified from Birmingham Dental School with Honours in 1996 having also completed an Intercalated Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Physiology in 1993. Following completion of my primary dental degree, I worked in General Dental Practice as a VDP and then in a variety of SHO positions in the West Midlands region. Subsequently I was appointed as a Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry in 1998 and completed my Fellowship in Dental Surgery in 1999.

My main interest within Restorative Dentistry is Periodontology and I embarked on a clinical academic training programme which resulted in completion of my PhD thesis in 2006 entitled "Microbial Responses to Human Stress Hormones in Periodontal Disease" and my Specialist Training Programme in Restorative Dentistry in 2007.

Currently I am Director of Undergraduate Education, Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at The School of Dentistry, University of Manchester.
